2016

SUMMARY

The International Baltic Sea Choir Competition was held for the first time in 2016, when 11 choirs from 8 countries took part: female choir TIMOTEI and chamber choir AUDITE from Finland, male choir VÄRLDSKLASS from Sweden, youth choir ONDRAŠEK from the Czech Republic, mixed choir NOORUS from Estonia, vocal ensemble SEQUANA VOCE from France, female choir GRUDNOVE ŠMIKLE from Slovenia, Kaunas Academic Youth Choir from Lithuania, Latvian Culture Academy Choir SOLA, youth choir BALSIS and female choir BALTA from Latvia.

The compulsory piece “Hail O Star of the Ocean” was composed by Rihards Dubra.

Grand Prix winner of the 1st International Baltic Sea Choir Competition was Mixed Choir of the Latvian Academy of Culture SÕLA (conductor Kaspars Ādamsons).

The chairman of the jury was Latvian composer Pēteris Vasks and jury members were Toomas Voll (Estonia), Vytautas Miškinis (Lithuania), Alexander Beneteau (France) and John Galea (Malta).

Special guests of the Closing concert – vocal group Latvian Voices.
