SUMMARY

In the 6th International Baltic Sea Choir Competition 10 choirs from 9 countries participated: mixed chamber choir ENCORE from Estonia, FINNISH YOUTH MIXED CHOIR from Finland, mixed choir ST JACOBS VOKALENSEMBLE from Sweden, THE WOMEN’S CHORAL SOCIETY OF THE UNIVERSITY OF OSLO from Norway, mixed chamber choir ALUMNI HEIDELBERG from Germany, DUBLIN MIXED CHAMBER CHOIR from Ireland, female choir VOICES OF ORPHEUS from Bulgaria, mixed choir GRATIA CHOIR from Indonesia and two Latvian participants – mixed choir AUSTRUMS and mixed choir NORISE.

The composition “Hail, O Star of the Ocean” by Rihards Dubra in 2016, became the compulsory composition also of this competition.

Grand Prix winner of the 6th International Baltic Sea Choir Competition was THE WOMEN’S CHORAL SOCIETY OF THE UNIVERSITY OF OSLO from Norway (conductor Marit Tøndel Bodsberg Weyde)

The Chairman of the Jury was Josu Elberdin Badiola from Spain and jury members were Kaia Tanner (Estonia), Harald Jers (Germany), Luca Scaccabarozzi (Italy) and Selga Mence (Latvia).

Special guest of Closing concert – post-folklore band RAXTU RAXTI.

94,67 points and the Winner of 6th International Baltic Sea Choir Competition who gets Jūrmala City GRAND PRIX trophy and 3500 Eur monetary prize is THE WOMEN’S CHORAL SOCIETY OF THE UNIVERSITY OF OSLO (Kvindelige Studenters Sangforening – KSS) from Norway

94,00 points, 2nd place and a monetary prize of 2000 Eur: GRATIA CHOIR from Indonesia

93,33 points, 3rd place and a monetary prize of 1000 Eur: S:t Jacobs Vokalensemble from Sweden

87,67 points: CHAMBER CHOIR ENCORE (Kammerkoor Encore) from Estonia

87,33 points: Mixed choir Koris “Austrums” from Latvia

83,75 points: Jauktais koris Norise / Mixed choir Norise from Latvia

83,63 points: THE FINNISH YOUTH CHOIR (Suomen Nuorisokuoro / Finlands Ungdomskör )from Finland

77,75 points: Dublin Youth Choir from Ireland

77,29 points: Kammerchor Kammerchor Alumni Heidelberg from Germany

70,13 points, 10th place: Female Choir Гласовете на Орфей/ Voices of Orpheus from Bulgaria

SPECIAL PRIZES:

The most attractive performance and a prize provided by Innocent Pro: mixed choir GRATIA CHOIR;

Special Award from Dzintari concert hall (Dzintaru koncertzāle): S:T JACOBS VOKALENSAMBLE;

The best interpretation of unison piece and prize from publishing house Musica Baltica: Kammerchor ALUMNI Heidelberg.

The Audience Award both from voting in presence and online provided by LAIMA: GRATIA CHOIR;

The prize for the best compulsory piece of 250 Eur: THE WOMEN’S CHORAL SOCIETY OF THE UNIVERSITY OF OSLO

The prize for the best conductor in the form of 500 Eur: THE WOMEN’S CHORAL SOCIETY OF THE UNIVERSITY OF OSLO.
