KYN is one of Finland’s top female choirs, specializing in ethnic jazz. This unique music style brings elements of Finnish folklore and poetry together with jazz rhythm and harmony. Led by award-winning conductor Kaija Viitasalo since 1989, the choir has won international contests, such as Grand Prix of Nations 2023 (Folklore with accompaniment) gold medal in European Choir Games 2023 (Jazz, Pop, Show), Grand Prix of Nations 2017 (Mixed, Female and Male Choirs) and a gold medal in World Choir Games 2014 (Female Choirs). The choir also was chosen as an official representative of Finland in the EBU Let the peoples sing -international choir competition finals in 2024.

 KYN’s fresh music and proficient and emotion awakening performance have attained increasing international interest and intrigued audiences around the world.

KYN cooperates with frontline composers and musicians nationally and globally and commissions new masterpieces for premieres. Anders Edenroth, Anna-Mari Kähärä, Kirmo Lintinen and Riikka Talvitie among others have worked with KYN and contributed to the choir’s success. Humble, yet ambitious in making music, KYN stays true to its vision, wants to enrich the choir scene and touch the audiences around the world.
